Sheikh Saadi was a great Persian poet. He was simple in his ways of life. Once he was going to the court of the king of Persia. He was wearing very simple clothes. On the way, he took shelter in the house of a nobleman for the night. The nobleman could not recognize him in his simple dress. He did not pay much attention to him. The nobleman did not give him good food and good bed. Saadi understood everything but said nothing. Next morning, he left the place and went to the king’s palace. The king gave him a very warm reception. He was given the dress of honor. Wearing that dress, Saadi came back to that nobleman’s house again……………

Wearing that dress, Saadi came back to that nobleman’s house again. The nobleman saw him in royal clothes. He was very surprised to see the change. He received Saadi with great respect this time.

He arranged a grand dinner for him. The nobleman served the best food on the table. When the food was served, Saadi did something strange. He started putting the food into his pockets and on his dress.

The nobleman was very confused. He asked, “Why are you doing this?” Saadi smiled and replied, “Yesterday you did not give me respect because of my simple dress. Today you are honoring me because of these royal clothes.”

He continued, “So this food is not for me. It is for my dress.” The nobleman felt very ashamed. He realized his mistake. He understood that we should not judge people by their appearance.

He begged for forgiveness from Saadi. Saadi forgave him with a kind heart.
